Song of the week – Catastrophe

Catastrophe (Claire Ashton)

This song was written by Claire Ashton when she was a member of Hargreaves and was included on our album ‘Sooner But Not Later’.

Catastrophe is a post-break-up song, about the feelings of emptiness, guilt and sadness following the collapse of a long-term relationship. Claire entered it for several writing competitions and generally received good comments – though one judge (who really shouldn’t have been a judge) thought the line about ‘Survivors learning to deal in aftermath’ was a bit trivial and out of place. Uhmmm.

This is the original version with Claire on acoustic guitar, James Healey on electric guitar and Chris playing slide guitar. We are currently working-up a new version with a live arrangement to match the instruments available in our 2017 line-up.
